What is an Access Control System?

An access control system consists of two parts: the front-end (reader and cards) and the back-end (software and controller). These parts are linked by a communication wire to control access to secured areas. Modern systems support multiple credential types including cards, fobs, mobile phones, and biometrics.

Why do we need different technologies for the front-end reader?

Different reader technologies exist to address varying security requirements. Low-frequency (125kHz) readers offer basic identification, while high-frequency (13.56MHz) readers provide encrypted communication. Bluetooth and mobile credential readers add convenience, and biometric readers offer the highest level of identity verification.

What is Wiegand?

Wiegand is the most widely used communication protocol in the access control industry. Named after the Wiegand effect, this protocol defines how readers transmit credential data to controllers. The standard format uses 26 bits, but extended formats (34-bit, 37-bit) are also common.

What is a Card Format?

A card format defines the structure of data stored on an access control credential. It specifies how bits are organized, including facility codes, card numbers, and parity bits. Common formats include 26-bit (H10301), 34-bit, and 37-bit formats.

Yes, we offer comprehensive ODM and OEM services including custom branding, firmware modifications, hardware customization, and private labeling. Minimum order quantities apply.

What communication protocols are supported?

Our readers support Wiegand 26/34/37-bit, OSDP v2, RS-485, and TCP/IP protocols depending on the model. OSDP v2 provides encrypted bidirectional communication for the highest security.

What is the warranty period?

All Techouse products come with a standard 2-year manufacturer warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. Extended warranty options are available.
