Wiegand, RS485 and OSDP: selection guide
Choose the connection supported by both the ordered reader and the controller. RS485 describes an electrical interface; it does not, by itself, identify the communication protocol.

| Wiegand | Card format, bit length, cable limits, indicator lines and controller input settings. |
| RS485 | Protocol, wiring, addressing, baud rate, termination and controller implementation. |
| OSDP | Reader and controller versions, firmware, supported commands and Secure Channel configuration where required. |
Do not assume Secure Channel support or enabled encryption from an OSDP label. Obtain confirmation for the exact reader and controller configuration, then test the system.
